BS 10175 Fully Revised

The code of best practice for investigation of potentially contaminated sites, BS 10175 has been fully revised and published this week. The previous full revision was published in 2011, ten years since its original publication in 2001.

BS 10175:2026 produced by the British Standard Institution, will update core industry guidance for planning and undertaking investigation of land that may be affected by land contamination. It will provide an updated structured process for engineers, consultants, developers and local authority to evaluate potential human health, controlled waters and future land use risk, supported by scientifically robust data.

The document incorporates previous amendments (1 and 2) into the core text and will address new themes and build on previous content including climate change, sustainability, worker wellbeing, and further technical knowledge on bioavailability, bio-accessibility testing and on-site measurements. Emphasis is placed on the importance of developing a conceptual site model (CSM) early in the investigation process and to review and update this as work progresses.

At Earth Science Partnership, we pride ourselves on delivering excellence to all our clients. Early adoption of the updated recommendations and guidance ensures we remain at the forefront of ground engineering, enabling our team to make well-informed, effective decisions and recommendations across our projects.
