CPD: InSAR for Ground Movement

This week members of the ESP team took part in a CPD presentation delivered by Dr Ren Capes of Tre Altamira.

This insightful afternoon focused on the use of InSAR satellite technology; Synthetic Aperture Radar used to monitor surface motion and change. InSAR is used to analyze geohazards in near real time throughout the world, highlighting areas of abnormal movement from which risk assessments, recommendations for further investigation and remedial works can be made.

The technology also serves as a useful tool in mining operations, where complex subsidence patterns associated with underground activities can be closely monitored.

The knowledge gained will make interesting sharing and discussion with the rest of the team at our next team briefing.
