Here’s a feature we’ve seen recently, a silica mine entry (adit) in the Nedd Fechan Gorge.

Sections of the Millstone Grit have been extensively worked in underground mines. The stimulus was the Industrial Revolution in South Wales; silica was needed to make bricks for the smelting furnaces.
