We were engaged to provide a ground assessment to classify geology, mining history, shaft condition and gas mitigation and mine shaft remediation. Responsibilities included overall guidance on the assessment of the site, design and formulation of appropriate and efficient remedial design. We were also engaged to oversee and implement the treatment phase of the project and this meant that the development plateau was made available on time, within budget and with minimal disruption to the existing school.

Through detailed liaison with the client, contractors and stakeholders, we provided professional services culminating in the identification and excavation of two historic mine shafts. Subsequent phases of works included innovative mine shaft remediation design, filling and grouting of the shafts and construction of robust shaft caps in accordance with CIRIA guidance (SP32).
